The Birth Time of the Common Rail Engine

Not everyone knows that the innovative common rail injection system is another product of Italian genius, which has completely changed the field of diesel engines. The system was actually invented by Italian physicist Mario Ricco from Bari.

However, in the early 1990s, after a lot of research and research, the Fiat Research Center in Orbassano (TO) (developed at the pre industrial level) sold the rights of common rail to the Germans of Robert Bosch, who completed the implementation and started large-scale industrialization.

Therefore, German companies began to apply this system to cars, and the first 'lucky one' was the Italian car Alfa Romeo 156 1.9 Jtd, which installed this new engine in 1997.

Until the mid-1990s, the injection of diesel engines was carried out through mechanical pumps, which provided both the pressure required to open diesel fuel and fuel metering. However, the system cannot optimize fuel injection and therefore cannot reduce fuel consumption and pollution emissions.
